Google Maps is integrating generative AI to provide personalized recommendations for places to visit. This feature, powered by large language models (LLMs), will analyze the app's database of over 250 million places and insights from its community of contributors to offer tailored suggestions. Initially, the feature will be available to select Local Guides before being rolled out to other users. Users can ask specific queries, such as 'places with a vintage vibe in SF', and the AI will analyze the available information to provide trustworthy suggestions. The AI-generated results will be organized into categories and accompanied by photo carousels and review summaries.
This new capability aims to enhance the user experience and is part of Google's broader deployment of generative AI across its product offerings, including search and advertising. Google says the feature will first become available in the US.
